Ryan Guthrie, Highland bagpiper

About

About Guthrie Highland Pipes

An Austin story, a UK chapter, and a return home to serve Central Texas.

Bio

Ryan Guthrie is a fifth-generation Austinite who grew up in Central Texas. He first encountered Highland piping at the Scottish Games in Salado, drawn in through his family's Irish and Scottish heritage.

He began learning the pipes locally with the Capitol City Highlanders before traveling to the United Kingdom to pursue the craft professionally.

Over seven years in the UK, he performed with Preston Pipes and Drums at ceremonies and events across England and Scotland. He also served as the official piper at Lancaster Castle — one of England's historic ceremonial landmarks.

Today Ryan is back in Austin, performing for funerals, weddings, and events across Central Texas. From quiet graveside services to large public gatherings, every performance is handled with the same professionalism and care he brought to ceremonies overseas.

That experience translates directly into the way every service is handled — with attention to timing, coordination, and the tone of the occasion, whether it's a quiet funeral, a wedding ceremony, or a large public event.
